The Shahi Paithani saree range by Swamini Sarees is indeed a thing of desire. The saree gets its name from the Persian word ‘Shahi’ which means royal, indicating its regal and luxurious appeal. It is renowned for its exquisite craftsmanship, rich colours, and intricate designs.

Shahi Paithani saree originates from Maharashtra in India. It is traditionally woven with pure silk threads and is widely regarded as the superior form of Paithani saree. It is adorned with soft, smooth threads, unlike other Paithanis with rough threads. A prominent feature of the saree is that it is completely weightless when worn.

The distinguishing feature of the Shahi Paithani Saree is its 'butti' or 'pallu' (the loose end of the saree). Shahi Paithani buttis usually feature a peacock motif, which is considered auspicious and represents beauty and grace. Compared to other Paithanis, the butti is also larger. There are 48 peacock motifs in the butti pattern, whereas there are only 14 in the regular Paithani design. Due to its traditional weaving on Gadwal loom, it contains pure Gadwal silk.

Shahi Paithani Sarees are known for their vibrant and rich colours. There are about 25 colours available such as red, pink, yellow, orange, off-white, purple, blue, etc. However, wine, peacock, and bottle green are the most popular colours.

Sarees like these are highly valued and often handed down from generation to generation. Shahi Paithani Sarees are a symbol of elegance and cultural heritage because of their intricate handwoven work, use of silk, and attention to detail. From the age of 16 to 80, they are typically worn for special occasions, festivals, and weddings, adding a touch of grace and tradition to an outfit.

Apart from Shahi Paithani, Swamini's treasure trove of sarees also features Banarasi, Ikat, Kanjeevaram, Chanderi, Mastani, Chiffon, Pashmina Silk, Chaniya Choli, Bandhani, Paithani, Bridal Shalu, etc. The collections also include formal and casual clothing as well as sarees for festivals, weddings, and parties. Swamini Sarees has carved a niche for preserving the traditional Nauvari saree too. It is also one of the few brands in Pune to receive the ‘Silk Mark’ grant from the Indian government.
